Direct answer
Nylon blends usually win for high-recovery compression with a denser hand; polyester platforms win for moisture management and cost at mid-compression. Lock fibre %, GSM and recovery % on the tech pack before colour — never by marketing name alone.

| Factor | Nylon-forward | Polyester-forward |
|---|---|---|
| Recovery / hold | Often stronger ‘second-skin’ | Good mid-compression; verify after wash |
| Moisture / dry time | Solid; hand denser | Usually faster dry |
| Print / dye | Watch shade lots | Strong for disperse / subli |
| Cost at volume | Typically higher | Typically lower |
| Recycled path | Possible via certified chain | Common GRS rPET routes |
What compression actually requires
Premium men’s compression tights need recovery that holds after wash and squat cycles, opacity at stretch, and a rise that stays put. Fibre choice is secondary to construction — but nylon and polyester change hand, dye behaviour and unit cost enough that Sourcing Managers should shortlist mills by test data, not brochure adjectives.
Nylon-forward platforms
Nylon/elastane (often with a soft brushed or micro-knit face) tends to deliver higher recovery and a denser compression hand. Watch dye lot consistency and heat-set rules — nylon can shift shade more than polyester in aggressive dye paths. Good when the brand sells ‘second-skin’ support and is willing to pay for recovery.
Polyester-forward platforms
Polyester/elastane platforms dry faster, often cost less at volume, and take sublimation or disperse prints cleanly. Mid-compression training tights and gym shorts liners frequently sit here. Confirm stretch recovery and opacity at the graded size — cheap polyester can glare or bag at the knee after wash.
How ELEVIA locks the choice
We map the brief to a named platform (or mill alternate), cut a manufacturing remake, then check recovery, opacity and rise on-body before PPS. GRS recycled polyester is available when the yarn path qualifies — never stamped on every SKU by default.
Common mistakes
- Choosing fibre from a competitor hangtag without recovery tests
- Approving colour on a polyester strike-off then bulk on nylon
- Claiming GRS on compression styles without a qualifying yarn path
Buyer advice
- Put fibre %, elastane %, GSM and recovery method on the tech pack
- Wash-test opacity at the largest size before colour
- Start a remake from 150 pieces per style per colour library path when silhouette already fits
Buyer FAQ
Questions procurement usually asks next
Is nylon always better for compression?
No. Nylon often feels denser and recovers well, but polyester can outperform on dry time and cost. Spec the recovery target first.
Can we use recycled polyester in compression?
Yes when the yarn/fabric chain qualifies for GRS transaction certificates on that order — not as a blanket site claim.
